GR10 week3 hiking and trekking in the Haut Pyrenees

From Gourette to Bareges
This third GR10 week starts in the Bearn (Pyrenees Atlantiques) and ends in the Haut Pyrenees (Pyrenees Centrales). This week consists of real Pyrenean stretches met a lot of difference in altitude. If you do the spectacular stretch from Cauteret to refuge de Baysellance and the Gavarnie then you reach the highest point of the GR10; more than 2700 meters. Highlights of this week are the villages Cauteret, Luz St. Sauveur and also the Cirque de Gavarnie.

gavarnie Saturday August 28, You arrive in Arrens Marsous where you spend the night in an auberge hotel (half board).
You can fly with Ryanair from London to Biarittz.
You can also fly with Ryanair from London to Pau. The price will be around 80 pound for a return.
You can also fly with Easyjet from London to Toulouse. Return for about 65 euro.
Pick-up by the Bergtopper Van in Biarittz, Pau and Toulouse.

Sunday August 29, after breakfast the Bergtoppers van will bring you to Gourette where you start hiking. The Track is about 5h15, 1000 meters difference in altitude and you end in the gite (half board) where you started this morning. Today you leave the pyrenees Atlantique and you enter the Haut Pyrenees.
Monday August 30, You start hiking in Arrens Marsous after breakfast. This day is about 7h45, 500 meters difference in altitude and you end in the refuge at Lac d'Ilheou (half board). Arrens is a nice place with a baker, butcher etc.
Tuesday August 31, This is a short day. The track is about 3 hours but you descend 1300 meters. You end in a gite in Cauteret where you spend the night.
Wednesday September 1, Today there are 2 options:
* You can hike to the refuge Baysellance (half board). The track is about 7h35, 1800 meters up and you end in the refuge where you spend.
* You can hike to Luz St. Sauveur. The track is about 6 hours, 500 meters difference in altitude.
Thursday September 2, From refuge Baysellance you hike to the Gavarnie, 6 hours and descending 1300 meters. If you spent the night in Luz you go by bus to the Gavarnie and will act like a tourist there.
Everybody spend the night in a gite in the Gavarnie
Friday September 3, You start hiking after breakfast. The track is about 8 hours and 900 meters difference in altitude. You end in Luz Saint sauveur where you spend the night in a gite.
Saturday September 4, You start hiking after breakfast for the last day of week3. The track is about 5 hours and 700 meters difference in altitude. You end in Bareges where the Bergtopper Van will bring you back to Luz Saint sauveur where you spend the night in the gite.

Sunday September 5 The Bergtopper Van will bring you back to Biarittz, Pau, Toulouse or Gabas after breakfast if your week ends here.
Otherwise the Bergtoppers Van brings you to Bareges where your start your first stretch of week4.
Ryanair flies September 2 from Biarittz to London.
Ryanair flies September 2 from Pau to London.
Easyjet flies September 2 from Toulouse to London.

General
The lunch is not included with the price. The Bergtopper can take care for the lunch, for 7 euro a lunch. We sleep 6 times in a gite (including 6 times breakfast and twice dinner). If the Bergtopper takes care for the food, this is possible for 17 euros 50 a day (breakfast and dinner, including consumptions). Most of the time it is also possible to take half board in the gite. This will cost you about 25 euros (breakfast and dinner) and must be mentioned in advance. On the other hand, it is very cozy to prepare dinner together......
If the Bergtopper takes care for all the food (5 x lunch, 4 x dinner), it will cost you and extra 80 euros.
In the refuges you can take a packed meal for about 10 euros.
